| ERNA Night Interdistrict 2006 |
| Round 1 |
| Team1 |
ERNA 70 defeated Randwick 33
We got off to a great start. The players seemed to click with
a good combination of experienced players with new additions
to the team. The players worked well together in both attack
and defence and the result told the story. |
| Team 2 |
ERNA 30 lost to Fairfield Sydney Uni 37
It was a hard start to the competition but the girls fought
hard to the end with everyone giving 100%. Great games by Nikki
Clough and Natalie Simmonds.
|
| Team 3 |
ERNA 17 lost to Randwick 27
Low scoring encounter with a lot of turnovers from both teams.
Lack of match practice and team combinations really showed,
however as the game progressed there were some great skills
shown and the team work will develop as they gain confidence
in each other. |
| Team 4 |
ERNA 32 defeated Penrith
27
Eastwood were too strong for Penrith and led at the end of each
break. It was a strong team effort from the 9 players available.
Good shooting from Lauren Salmon, Abby Ververka and Amy Sommerville.
Centre court players - Brittany Ferguson, Jacqui Mooy, Stephanie
Thompson and Abbey Jones combined well ensuring the transition
up the court worked in our favour. Our circle defenders were
very strong with excellent rebounding and intercepts from Courtney
Moore, Natalie Mooy and Angelica Triant.

| Round 2 |
| Team 1 |
ERNA 39 defeated Sutherland
38
The Sutherland side was a young side but with lots of get up
and go. Our girls took a while to gain control being behind
at each break. The team pulled it off late in the final quarter
to snatch victory.
|
| Team 2 |
ERNA 33 lost to Bankstown
41
ERNA was up against it from the start with 5 players not available
for the game. Thanks to Kate Sommerville who played up to ensure
the game was a contest. The score was admirable considering
we played with 6 players. |
| Team 3 |
ERNA 45 defeated St George
19
With almost a full team available and the girls worked well
capitalising on opportunities and valuing possession of the
ball. Goal shooting was 905 - a great achievement. Thanks to
Sarah Keelan for filling in at GA for the game.
|
| Team 4 |
ERNA 42 defeated Wyong
31
At the end of the first quarter ERNA were 2 goals down - and
at half time still could not break the 2 goal deficit. The third
quarter saw ERNA hit their straps and had the game under control
to defeat Wyong. Best players were Amy Sommerville and Abby
Ververka who scored great goals even though they were under
a lot of pressure from very physical defenders. The speed of
the centre court again assisted in Eastwood maintaining possession
and capitalising on the opposition's errors.
The circle defenders worked tirelessly. A great team effort.

| Round 5 |
| Team 1 |
ERNA defeated Hills
This game was a tough encounter with the Hills team applying
pressure all the way down the court from the opening centre
pass. Hills had a 4 goal lead at the end of the first quarter
but with a more controlled second quarter ERNA fought back to
only be down by 2 at half time. With some positional changes
and fresh legs at half time ERNA cranked up the pace and with
speed through the centre court and excellent turnovers from
the defences the shooters were given plenty of opportunities.
Best players for Eastwood Ryde - Suzanne Teulan, Alex Meecham
and Courtney Rugg. |
| Team 2 |
| Drew with Campbelltown 32 all |
| Team 3 |
| Lost to Hawkesbury 33-40 |
| Team 4 |
| This was definitely the toughest fought match
so far! The girls were on fire early on with Brittany Ferguson
and Stephanie Thomson driving strong on to ball, Abby Veverka
fast and furious in and around the circle and Lauren Salmon
taking some amazing passes under the post. An excellent display
of defence by Natalie Mooy, Eliza Davey and Sarah Keelan. These
girls were always putting pressure on their opponents - causing
handling errors by Gosford. Because Nat and Amy got so many
touches on the ball in the circle, the defences did an excellent
job of bringing the ball down the court. Our pseudo defence
player Amy Somerville is not only a beautiful shooter but awesome
when she puts on the GK patch!!!!! Jacqui was just warming up
when unfortunately she had to go off injured with a turned ankle.
The attacking end enjoyed a fast and aggressive game (sometimes
too fast at times) but they had to make quick decisions because
the Gosford defence was extremely tall. Stephanie kept up well
with the fast Gosford "C", while Brittany toughed
it out with the WD and Abby run under the GD's armpits!!! This
is the second time in two weeks we lost by one goal - what are
the chances!!!!! It went down to the wire with, dare I say,
a few umpiring decisions!!! We will get them next time when
we have Angelica and Courtney back! |

| Round 6 |
| Team 1 |
ERNA defeated Randwick 53 - 37
Eastwood Ryde was in control for the entire game in a very physical
match. Great work from Deb Deans-Smith who showed her versatility
by playing at both Gaol Attack and Goal Defence. Thanks to Zelda
Roesch who filled in at GS from our Division 4 team.
|
| Team 2 |
Defeated Fairfield 33 - 27.
Excellent result showing the girls' improvement in court working
and working together as a team as they lost to Fairfield by
10 goals in Round 1. |
| Team 3 |
Drew with Randwick 33 all
Randwick were undefeated through the first round. We started
slow and were down 5-10 at the break. I brough Holly Veverka
on at GS and we won the next quarter 11-5 and were in the lead.
At half time Michaela came off and Ellie Nightingale came into
WD. She started strongly intercepting at her first 3 feet defensive
chance. At the end of the quarter we were up by 3. Randwick
made some key changes and stepped up the pressure and intensity
in the last quarter. Some of the girls with limited rep experience
made some crutial errors under pressure which allowed Randwick
to retake the lead. However the girls dug deep for the last
3 mins and pulled back to draw on the bell.
Cassie and Holly shot >80% which really helped the team to
consolidate their opportunities. I was pleased overall with
the efforts of the team and the error rate was lower than previous
weeks against lesser competition.
|
| Team 4 |
After 2 weeks in a row losing by only 1 goal
- against the top two teams in the competition the team played
Penrith. The game was a close one with the lead constantly changing.
The result was a 33 all draw. The girls are all fired up for
a win next week.
The team is currently in 3rd place.

| Round 8 |
| Team 1 |
| ERNA defeated Kuringai 55 27
currently leading the competition |
| Team 2 |
| ERNA defeated Sutherland 42 -39
currently in third place |
| Team 3 |
| ERNA defeated Inner West 31 -29
currently in third place |
| Team 4 |
|
ERNA defeated Northern Suburbs 57 15
currently 2nd.
We had an outstanding win over Northern Suburbs this week.
Abbey Jones started off strong as C and with a speedy Steph
as WA, tenacious Abby and hot shot Lauren we had a winning
combination in attack! Angelica did the usual casual intercepts!!!
Natalie, Eliza and Sarah were anticipating passes and got
their fingertips to a lot of balls. It was nice to see Sarah
back on the netball court again. Both Jacqui and Amy came
on in the second quarter powering and we consolidated our
lead by half time. Eastwood-Ryde went on to win 57 -15 - well
played girls!!! We have a great group of 12 enthusiastic players
ready to play each week, so it was Britanny and Courtney's
turn to play up in the Division 8 Team. Both girls had great
games in the win against Inner West.
